UPS Inc., the world's largest shipping carrier, is hiking 2010 rates for ground packages by an average of 4.9 percent. The company, based in Atlanta, said Friday there also will be an average net rate increase of 4.9 percent next year on all air express and U.S. origin international shipments. The rate increase for air express and international shipments is based on a 6.9 percent increase in the base rate, less a 2 percent reduction in the air and international fuel surcharge index.  

Ukiah Regional Airport will be closed for two days next week to work on several storm drains that are beyond the point of easy repair. "We are going to be closed Monday and Tuesday," Airport Manager Greg Owen said. He said the repairs are part of an ongoing project to repair storm drains that were built in the 1940s.

A judge has unsealed a search warrant issued against Applied Pharmacy Services in Las Vegas, where authorities believe Dr. Conrad Murray obtained Propofol. FedEx Ground, the small-package ground delivery unit of FedEx, has opened a new distribution facility in Medley, Florida. The company has said that the 217,015sqft operation is double the size of the facility that it replaces, which also was located in Medley. The $59 million facility is part of the company's expansion plan and is expected to provide processing rates of up to 15,000 packages per hour, additional load and unload doors, more scan tunnels and sorters.
